Problems to Look Out for With Law enforcement

There are many pros for having law enforcement officers who are skilled in what they do like probation officer jobs in ma. They can prevent crime, help people during difficult times, and get people safe when they need help. But there are also many cons to this job, which I will discuss below.

Law enforcement officers operate on the premise that every citizen is a criminal and that any action against them could be considered illegal. This leads to cases of misconduct if investigation procedures aren’t followed correctly or if someone isn’t properly informed of their rights or their reason for being arrested. It has been found that law enforcement misconduct is a common occurrence and seems to occur most often with those individuals who have “low tolerance levels,” such as teenagers.

1. May Develop a “Low Tolerance Level”

Law enforcement officers are taught to be tough, follow the rules, and treat everyone with respect. They are given little leeway for deviating from these rules because the citizens would not appreciate it since they respect them. As a result of this, many officers start to develop a “low tolerance level” and when they do, they may start to violate laws in order to make up for their perceived failures as law enforcement officers. It is dangerous as well when an officer stops driving recklessly or becomes violent with his partner because it could lead him/her into a series of things that he/she might have been reluctant to do if he wasn’t dealing with stress at the time.

2. May Become Overwhelmed

This is a very dangerous issue because law enforcement officers are expected to go above and beyond the call of duty. This can make the officer overworked or mentally overextended for a situation if he/she must solve everything on his/her own. It is not uncommon for officers to begin to become aggressive towards others, especially those who are involved in criminal activity.

3. May Become Despised by Certain Public Groups

Law enforcement officers are held as heroes by some groups, but may not be well-received by other groups such as certain racial minorities or certain groups that have certain political leanings. This is a very big problem because it creates serious problems for those individuals who are involved in the law and may not be considered heroes by all of their people. If a person, who was arrested and was mistreated, has a high standing in his/her community, then the officer may get into trouble with his/her superiors or suffer from mistreatment from other officers.

4. May Have to Deal with Problematic Citizens

Citizens who are problematic can also lead to certain problems for law enforcement officers as well. There is the issue of individuals who do not respect authority and refuse to follow orders even if they are told that it is for their own good. This is not a normal situation and can be seen as hostile and intimidating by other citizens.

5. May Suffer from Lawsuits

Law enforcement officers are working with people who may be considered dangerous and are armed, which can lead to problems if an individual feels that they were mistreated because they weren’t treated fairly by their arresting officer. This is not a good situation for the officer to be in because he/she could find themselves facing a lawsuit or even being fired, if it turns out to be true later on down the line.

6. May Face Problems With Disciplinary Action

Law enforcement officers are often put in situations where they come in contact with individuals or places that they should not have. This can lead to disciplinary action as well if an officer makes a mistake in the field and ends up hurting someone. This is also dangerous because an officer may be fired by their superiors based off of one incident while he/she was working at that particular job.

7. May Face Lawsuit If There Is a Mistake Made

If there is a legal issue at hand, there could be a civil lawsuit filed against the officer if mistakes were made or the case was mishandled in some manner that could lead to an innocent person’s rights being violated. This will not lead to good things for the officer because he/she could be sued for everything that he/she has. It can also lead to further legal problems and getting in trouble with his/her superiors.

8. May Face Serious Legal Issues

If there is a case or a series of cases that deal with the same individual, there needs to be evidence that supports it or could be used against him/her as well. This is because the evidence is often considered hearsay in criminal cases and may change the outcome of a trial, which would not be good for anyone involved with it.

9. May Face Discrimination

Many law enforcement officers face discrimination from their superiors or even from the public. This is because there are certain groups of people who have access to certain information or may find out about things through other means that could be considered sensitive and shouldn’t be made public knowledge. This can lead to trouble for the officer if he/she has made an arrest or has been involved in some type of event that could be considered corrupt by his/her superiors.
