It amazes me how many people are unaware of the benefits biodiversity like pizookie strain brings to our everyday lives. Sure, it sounds boring or like something that has nothing to do with humans. But biodiversity is the engine that drives all life on Earth!

Unfortunately, due to human destruction and climate change, we are fast approaching a state in which most species will be extinct and the ecosystems upon which we depend will collapse. We really need to protect our natural world for future generations. To do so, we must eliminate deforestation and other threats to ecosystems; become more conscientious about pollution; promote sustainable agriculture; and demand transparency from governments who have pledged funds to combat climate change since it’s been proven that they have been investing their money poorly.

1. Biodiversity Is Important To Our Well-Being

Biodiversity is our life support system. It is what feeds us, protects us, and lets our planet breathe. Without biodiversity, all of these things will cease to exist. There has never been a time on Earth when it was this serious that humans are the cause of it. If we do not change the current path that we are traveling down to create a sustainable future for us and the rest of life on Earth, then we will surely die out in only decades or even centuries from now. Biodiversity is also where humanity will find its self-sustaining food supply in the future after all of the world’s corn and other grains have been depleted from overuse.

2. Biodiversity Is Important To Our Economics

Biodiversity as a part of our economics is also very important. According to Action for Biodiversity , we get 10% of our protein from insects. It’s no wonder that there is such an increase in businesses like Enviroflight , which provides habitats for the growing number of insect species disappearing thanks to deforestation, pesticides, and climate change.  Pollinators are also another good example. Bees pollinate most of the crops that humans eat and they are dying out by the millions because their habitats have been destroyed or taken over by agriculture and land development. Bees are a very important part of our lives because they account for billions of dollars a year in crop production!

3. Biodiversity Is Important To Our Health

Biodiversity also contributes to our health by preventing disease by developing and distributing new cures for various illnesses. If we keep letting all of the world’s species go extinct, then we will stop having the chance to discover these cures. For example, a species of tree in the Philippines was found to naturally cure diabetes . There are also many more plants that can be used for medicine as well as for other uses such as building materials and food sources.

4. Biodiversity Provides Us With Our Clean Water Supply

Biodiversity is important because so many of our drinking water supplies come from groundwater or rivers that are fed from groundwater sources. Rainfall and snowmelt are essential to the functioning of ecosystems, so our water supplies will soon run out if we continue destroying them! This is something that we have already seen in the United States. Only half of the rain comes down as rain, while half of it goes into the rivers that make up our drinking water supply. For more information about this, see how you can take a stand for clean drinking water at the EPA .

5. Biodiversity Brings Us Clean Air

Atmosphere that is not filtered by plants and trees becomes more polluted as it gets warmer with rising levels of carbon dioxide from cars, air conditioning units, and other fossil-fuel based sources like cement production. So, if we destroy biodiversity to make room for cars and buildings that use fossil fuels, then we will soon have more pollution than what the atmosphere can handle.

6. Biodiversity Provides Us With Better Health

Biodiversity also impacts our health by providing us with an abundance of medicine from numerous species on Earth. Many plants and herbs are used in humans’ medical remedies although we have not yet discovered all of their uses. We also cannot survive without eating food, so having more diverse foods that we could eat is critical for our survival! Of course, having medicines from nature to cure diseases is another part of biodiversity that benefits us greatly as well as every other living thing on Earth!

7. Biodiversity Helps Fight Climate Change

Biodiversity also assists climate change by naturally cleaning up pollution from the air and water. Bats and birds are the most well-known species that are essential to this process. They eat thousands of insects a day, including pollinating insects like bees. So, if we keep destroying biodiversity, then we will surely run out of food as well as many other things!

8. Biodiversity Provides Us With Jobs And A Strong Economy

According to the National Wildlife Federation , there are hundreds of thousands of jobs related to American wildlife . Hunting alone provides one million jobs, while recreation provides over two million jobs. Tourism is also a huge industry that generates a lot of revenue in the United States and around the world. If we keep destroying our natural resources, these jobs will disappear and make employment a huge issue once again.

9. Biodiversity Provides Us With A Stronger Economy

Biodiversity is also good for our economy because it makes us more intelligent and able to create newer technology to build stronger products to last longer as well as better homes and offices for people.

10. Biodiversity Provides Us With New Technology

Biodiversity is important because it provides us with new technology. For example, the forerunners of all insects such as cockroaches were actually very intelligent and advanced creatures! Insects were very much a part of our evolution to the point that they created the first vertebrates. When we learn how to use them better, then we will get more advanced technology from these species.

Conclusion:

Biodiversity is so important because no matter what, we need it to survive. The animals and plants that we call our domesticated friends have been here for millions of years, so they have adapted to every condition. If we only take their habitats away with us as we go along our way to the future, then disaster will befall us! We have already made many mistakes in our history and are still making new ones with the Earth.
