What is msnbc’s outlook?

MSNBC is the most progressive news network in the country. We’ve been delivering news, analysis and opinion for years with a refreshing perspective on where America is heading next. If you’re curious to peek behind the scenes of our new morning show, msnbc outlook, we’re here to give you a look. From what’s on our radar each day to the daily production meetings, prep work and all things in between, come inside msnbc outlook with us!

It’s 9:30am, and everyone is in their seats, ready to go. The “on air” light is on, so we take a moment to get comfortable. Our producer, Ed Jackson, stands at the back of the room as many of us begin to stretch out our legs and prepare for the day. We start off with a quick round of introductions — this is when we tell you what your role will be today.

What are the features of msnbc outlook?

Each day will feature two of our msnbc outlook personalities taking you behind the headlines. First up is a world news focus, with msnbc foreign correspondent Richard Engel breaking down what’s trending overseas, followed by msnbc political analyst Ron Reagan to give his take on the biggest headlines out of Washington. As the day progresses, we’ll offer primers on timely issues, as well as explain how these stories are impacting Americans around the country. Stories that affect us all are there in front of us every day; it’s our job to make them matter to you.

You’ve heard the expression, “What’s old is new again.” Well, msnbc outlook is bringing back the morning show – the only way that really matters anymore. With a team of dedicated journalists at the helm and an interactive social media experience that brings our viewers into the news each day, we’re excited to be a part of your morning routine.

The studio was transformed hours before going live for its first shot at success – 3:30am to be exact. Our Creative Director, Dylan Bradway (D-Brad), and Associate Producer, Jen Baumgardner (Baum) spent their nights prepping backgrounds and drawing logos on glass with markers.

What are the advantages?

The morning show is back – with a much-needed refresher, and in a big way. msnbc outlook is offering a new way to navigate the news this morning! It’s something you can enjoy check out every day. And even though you won’t be seeing us in person, we’ll be with you every step of the way from our offices to your home TV.

Left to right: Dylan Bradway (D-Brad), Jen Baumgardner (Baum), Ed Jackson (EJ), and Ron Reagan. Our first guests arrived at 9:40am, and we welcomed them right into the studio. After they settled in, we took a moment to introduce ourselves as we discussed our first set of topics. To know Ed Jackson is to know his sneakers: clean, white and ridiculous. Every morning, he sets out for his job in the same pair of Air Force Ones he wore to work last night. He’s not afraid to admit it either: “I’m an Air Force Mom” — a jump from a former career as an airline pilot.

What are the disadvantages?

A difficult thing to do in the mornings, which is why the msnbc people behind Outlook are doing things a little differently. Every morning, we’re building our audience by using whatever social media channels are available to us. In some cases, we’ll be at it all day long in various locations – either on-site or remotely – as we report live and as reaction rolls in.

It’s not easy getting everyone up at the same time – especially for those who have trouble getting out of bed and going out into the world. But with our current product, and flexible nature, there’s no reason you can’t get your early morning news fix every day! “The show is still in its beginning stages,” said Bradway. “We’ve got a ways to go before we start really hitting on all cylinders, but we’re well on our way.”

We’re taking lessons learned from the day we met, and applying them every day. We take what you’ve told us and make it into a better experience.
